To get a rating of excellent the used car must look great, need no inside reconditioning, and is mechanically sound with no needed repairs. Also, the outside has no paint blemishes and has no visible defects such as rust. The vehicles tires are either new or recently purchased and the title is free and clear.

A good rating by the Kelley Blue Book® implies that the vehicle has no visible impurities or damage. The interior of the car has only minor flaws if any at all and there are no major mechanical issues. The tires have only minimal wear and tear and the threading is still good. A car rated as "good" may need to have some reconditioning that needs to be done and this cost should be deducted from the cars value.
